Yunimar Alfonzo-Bruno, LMHC-D
Licensed Mental Health Counselor – Virtual Therapy Across New York State
Healing has always been more than symptom reduction for me. It is a process of returning to ourselves. My work is deeply informed by both clinical training and a lived understanding of how stress, trauma, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, relationships, migration, and chronic pressure can gradually disconnect us from who we truly are. I believe therapy offers a space to slow down, become curious, and reconnect with ourselves through understanding and compassion rather than judgment or self-criticism. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with experience supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds through emotionally complex experiences, life transitions, relational challenges, anxiety, trauma, and nervous system overwhelm. My approach is rooted in compassion, multicultural understanding, mindfulness, and the belief that healing should feel both intentional and deeply human. Over the years, I have worked extensively within community mental health settings serving historically underserved communities across New York City. These experiences continue to shape the way I approach care—with curiosity, cultural humility, emotional attunement, and deep respect for each person's unique story. They have continually reminded me that healing cannot be separated from the context of our lives, our relationships, our culture, and the experiences that have shaped us. As someone who is deeply interested in the intersection of psychology, culture, language, and identity, I am especially curious about how our stories influence the way we understand ourselves, relate to others, and move through the world. This perspective continues to inspire both my clinical work and the reflections I share through Becoming, my space for writing about growth, identity, and living more authentically.
At Yo Soy Wellness, I believe healing begins not by becoming someone different, but by understanding, accepting, and reconnecting with who you have always been. Whether we are working through anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, identity, or life's many transitions, my hope is to walk beside you with curiosity, compassion, and respect as you move toward greater self-awareness, psychological freedom, and authentic, congruent change.
